Eyelets Used as a Fastening Device on Folders and Pads
Usually to hold a fastening device on a folder, brass or nickel eyelets are not intended for this purpose – but designers often insist! Elastic can be captured within the curve of an eyelet when the eyelet is being pressed into position and this is often used as a basis for making a fastening device to close the cover of a folder or a notebook. Another instance is when two “washers” are affixed to the folder and a piece of string is captured. The string makes a “figure 8” around the washers to close the folder. Eyelets are also used in a similar fashion to simply strengthen the hole. You can see such an application on our pop-up mailers website where we have strengthened the hole in order to add treasury tags to our pop-up handbags to create handles. We also do the same thing on pop-up lanterns, whilst it is also necessary to strengthen the holes in the manufacture of face masks so that the board doesn't tear when the elastic is stretched.
The hole size is to be 5mm diameter to accommodate standard stationery eyelets. However, if your job calls for a special eyelet then this must be discussed with one of our senior estimators.
