Product styles
Eyeletted discs, parking discs, calculators, wheel charts, information discs, roundels – call them what you will. These products are by far and away our most common eyeletting job. The most standard format is to have 2 or 3 discs collated and fastened at the centre with a nickel or brass eyelet but there are many variations. Parking discs are also very common where a disc is placed within a 4-page cover and fastened with an eyelet. The two open corners are usually spot glued to close the cover. Other multi-page variations are also handled quite regularly.
Our popupmailers website features more on how we make products such as these. To see more please click on local authority parking discs, parking permits or recycling wheels. You can also click here for more information on eyeletted discs and other parking discs.
Centre holes
Ideally the discs would be supplied to us die-cut and stripped from the sheet with each piece that is to be eyeletted having a hole at the centre to accommodate the eyelet. That hole would be 4.5mm diameter if the wheel is to have a fairly stiff turn or 5mm if it is to turn more freely.
Optimum size
Whilst all discs are eyeletted by hand most of the machines are semi-automatic inasmuch as they have an automated feed. However, the optimum disc diameter for these machines is 168mm. If the discs get to, say, 200mm and are supplied on a rigid board such as 400gsm stock then the job has to be done on a fully manual machine which makes the job slower and dearer.
Packing
Eyeletted discs are awkward to pack being both circular and having a metal lump in the middle! We do pack very carefully but we also warn customers about damage which may be caused by movement in transit eg the eyelet marking the adjacent disc. We can interleave each disc to help minimize any damage but there IS an extra charge for interleaving.
